Further Evidence That College Basketball is Dying

Posted by Adam Butler on November 1, 2010

UNC true freshman Harrison Barnes–before he has ever even played in a college game–has been named first-team AP All-American. No other player has been so honored in the 25-year history of the list.

In fairness, Barnes, DID average almost 20 points and 9 rebounds a game last year for his Ames, Iowa High School. I mean, NOBODY does that–especially not in Iowa–a state that is seemingly the home of all transcendent hoopsters.

A Rolling Moss Gathers No Stones or Receptions or Something

Posted by Adam Butler on November 1, 2010

I know….that saying was just butchered about as badly as Randy Moss butchered his career by begging for a trade, getting traded to the Minnesota Vikings, not performing well once he was traded and then a few weeks after being traded, expressing love for the organization from whence he came–New England.

It’s a good thing the Vikings are otherwise stable and don’t have any additional drama/personnel issues.

BREAKING NEWS: Childs Abuse

Posted by Adam Butler on November 1, 2010

UA Wide Receiver Greg Childs is out for the season after suffering a patella tendon injury early in the 4th quarter of the Hogs’ 49-14 homecoming win over Vanderbilt Saturday. Surgery will be required. If there is a silver lining, it is that there was no ligament damage, as first feared.

I hate this for Childs. He was on his way to yet another All-SEC snub caliber season with 46 catches, 659 yards and 6 TDs through 8 games.

He wil undoubtedly be forced to come back to school for his senior year and prove that he is healthy annd back up to speed before entering the NFL draft. The NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE is extremely wary of (perceived) damaged goods.

Select 17 – Week 10

Posted by Brett Kincaid on November 1, 2010

Believe it or not, two-thirds of the college football season has passed us by.  Here we are the start of November, and there are 7 teams that have legitimate claims to being in the BCS Championship Game (although Wisconsin’s seems to be the weakest).  This past weekend helped solidify the top contenders.  Oregon and Auburn both went on the road and pulled out impressive victories.  Boise St. dispatched Louisiana Tech with ease, and both TCU and Utah remain unbeaten heading into their elimination game this weekend.  Alabama eased up a spot after their weekend off.

Meanwhile, Arkansas re-enters the Select 17 … barely.  This weekend’s contest at South Carolina is clearly the turning point in the Razorbacks’ season.  A win means every bowl outside of the BCS is still attainable.  A loss means early January in Dallas is about the best the Hogs can hope for this year.

Rank Team Points LW
1 Oregon (6) 134 1
2 Auburn (1) 127 2
3 Boise St. (1) 116 3
4 TCU 111 4
5 Alabama 109 6
6 Wisconsin 89 8
7 Utah 85 9
8 Ohio St. 75 10
9 Stanford 67 11
10 Nebraska 65 13
11 Oklahoma 53 12
12t Arizona 39 15
12t LSU 39 14
14 Iowa 38 17
15t Michigan St. 33 5
15t Missouri 33 7
17 Arkansas 6 NR

Others Receiving Votes:  South Carolina 3, Oklahoma State 2

The Hogs and Roosters kick off at 6:00PM CDT on Saturday.  The game will be televised by ESPN.

Ryan Mallett Named SEC Offensive Player of the Week

Posted by Adam Butler on November 1, 2010

for this record-setting performance versus Vanderbilt Saturday.

Someone from the league office needs to send a memo to the hate-filled people in my section–half of which seem to think Mallett is a below average quarterback.

Childs, Please

Posted by Adam Butler on November 1, 2010

I, like the rest of the free world, have no inside, reliable info on Arkansas Wide Receiver Greg Childs’ knee injury, but let’s just say I have a feeling, and it’s a bad one. I fear that he has a torn ACL that he suffered early in the 4th quarter of the Hogs’ 49-14 homecoming win over Vandy Saturday. I could be wrong (I have been before), but based on the way it look, Childs’ reaction, and the absolute lack of ANY kind of update from the Broyles Athletic Complex that’s what my gut is telling me.

I hope I am wrong.
